Sorry for the downtime

Having moved myself and my computers to Puerto Rico (from Canada), I haven’t had any time to work on anything MythTV-related for a month or more. The trac server is still off and is parked. I will try to get it running and operational again in a week or so.

After that I should have some “spare time” to work on stuff when my new wife lets me.

mpeg2cut project started

I’ve had enough of people whining about how much avidemux sucks (which it does for various reasons), so I’m starting to rip it apart to make mpeg2cut a standalone program.

I will be fleshing this out as I get time., and I hope to have a working program soon. Don’t expect much for now.

zap2it being annoying again

Well, I’m not sure how many other people have this issue, but my DataDirect has been messing me around a bit again. It seems that zap2it is still auto-adding new channels. Of course, this adds extra channel sources to my guide… that I can’t actually receive.

SIGH.

So, disabled them on labs.zap2it.com, deleted the offending rows from channels, programs, credits, programgenres, programrating… then re-optimized all the tables.

It would be REALLY nice if we could choose not to auto-add new channels. If anyone from Tribune Media is listening, excellent.

Odd crashes.

My combined frontend/backend box continues to “randomly” crap out on me. I’m beginning to think that it might be heat related, but my measurements don’t really support that theory well. When I return from watching a show, go back to the “Watch Recordings” screen, mythfrontend core dumps, but only sometimes.

I created backtraces before, and they were dreadfully useless… sigh.

Also mythweb has a knack for crapping out my backend. What fun. This is what I get for using what is effectively alpha software. But it works 90%+ of the time.

Blog Theme updated

The blog’s theme now roughly matches the rest of the site. I based it on the Black-LetterHead theme for WordPress, then hacked it to what I want. I call it “Beirdo-MythTV” Anyone who wants a copy need only ask, the theme is GPL.

Since Blogger has been giving me periodic publishing problems, I decided it was time to run my own blog setup. Since the host server has the prerequisite MySQL and PHP, and it seems to work well, I went with WordPress. I will be updating the CSS/theming soon to better match the rest of the site.

I have almost gotten RT-JPEG to MPEG4 transcoding working. In the overhaul in the threads required to get this operational, I may have slightly borked the A/V synchronization. Once the RT-JPEG stuff stops crashing, and gives a valid output, I will be concentrating on getting the synchronization back to where it should be.

And of course, this is all happening in my dwindling spare time, so patience will be required. Sorry.

nuvtools-0.0.3 is crap

I shoulda posted this a while ago, but forgot.

nuvtools-0.0.3 contained untested code that I had thought hadn’t been checked in. As a result, it doesn’t work worth beans, and I have removed it from the site. If you want to be on the bleeding edge, you are welcome to use the version from subversion which can be accessed via Trac.

This new build will compile cleanly for AMD64 as well as x86 architectures. I pulled in a current ffmpeg CVS snapshot.

Requires LAME and XVID development packages to be installed.

Upcoming stuff

I am very strongly leaning towards using trac (http://www.edgewall.com/trac/) to create development environments (i.e. version control + bug tracking + wiki) for my MythTV-related projects (and miscellaneous others). I’d expect that I will have this setup for testing within a week or so.

This will allow others to collaborate some on stuff I’m working on. I’ve already had a few people interested in helping out with gputrans and another project to rip the guts out of avidemux for cutting MPEG2. This will make life easier.

I still have to work out the appropriate details of course.
